Every visitor costs something to win: the ranking work, the content, sometimes the ads. And clicks are scarce. SparkToro's 2024 study found that 58.5% of U.S. Google searches ended without a click, and that for every 1,000 searches only 360 clicks reached the open web, beyond Google's own properties and ads. Where Google shows an AI Overview, Advanced Web Ranking found that 74.3% of US desktop results pages ended without an organic click in July 2026, against 53.6% of pages without one.
So the visits you do get are worth more than they look. If your website has traffic and does not have conversions, it needs an upgrade. Visitors leave for reasons you can find: a page that buries the next step, a form that asks too much, a checkout with one step too many. Product checkouts are the hardest of them all, and the smallest changes can make the biggest difference.
So the first fix we reach for is not more traffic. It is finding where users leave your website altogether, and asking the bigger question: why.
